He has become so odious

Read this first: 1 Samuel 27:12
David's actions cause Achish to believe he is now hated in Israel and, thus, enslaved to him. He's wrong but, for safety, David doesn't correct him. At times, our reputation with others will be false and we'll be unable to change that - an experience Jesus was very familiar with. But he also knew he would ultimately be vindicated (Mat 11:16-19) - we can know the same.
