Read this first: 1 Samuel 27:1-2
David fled to Philistia when he was panicked by Saul's murder squad and it didn't go well (21:10-13). But he's now matured and is able to plan strategically such that, remarkably, he can go peacefully into his enemies' land with 600 soldiers! Faith in the Lord's sovereign care helps us to have a calmer heart, which enables us to plan our decisions rather than just react.
