Read this first: James 5:12
In the end, James’s words about speech can be summed up as: talk openly and honestly with other Christians. Don’t use words to control or harm. Don’t speak deceptively or unreliably. Don’t leave others wondering if you mean what you say, unless you’ve sworn an oath. Be a person upon whom others can depend. The Lord commands us to be like this (Mat 5:33-37).
