Read this first: James 5:1
For a few lines, James turns from his Christian hearers to address (like an Old Testament prophet!) a group who have been corrupted by wealth. They live in a dreamland where their finances mean a bright future. James says that isn't reality and they should wipe the smug grins off their faces. Money does not last forever; only heavenly treasure does (Mat 6:19-21).
