Read this first: James 3:3
Pieces of metal in horses' mouths enable us to steer these big, strong, fast creatures in the right direction. Likewise, writes James, our mouth is key to steering our life down the right path. We must reject lies, gossip and slander. We must not speak in cruel, foul or arrogant ways. For if we give our mouths free rein, we risk a fall which will leave us horribly damaged.
