Read this first: 1 Samuel 31:3-4
Saul fears the enemy shaming him in death. But he doesn't ask God to help, only his aide to kill him. The man, however, can't do it, so Saul opts for suicide. Things could have been so different had Saul had the faith of his son (14:6,7) or his predecessor Samson (Jdg 16:28). But Saul is lost in pride and despair. Are you ready to die? Only faith in the Lord can prepare you.
