Read this first: 1 Samuel 28:3
Samuel gave Israel stability and his death hit everyone. But how did Saul feel? In life, Samuel had undermined him (15:28) and, it seems, Saul feared he would still undermine him in death. So the king cleared the land of anyone who might enable people to reconnect with Samuel. But we do not need to fear the dead: they are gone. It is the Lord we should fear (Mat 10:28).
