Read this first: 1 Samuel 26:15-16
David suspects others have been poisoning Saul's mind (v19). So he uses his sneaky raid to embarrass and condemn those who may be responsible, in particular: the king's commander, and uncle, Abner. Rumour and slander are so damaging, and its nasty to be the subject of them. But the sinful lies of others will be exposed, if we keep behaving well (1Pe 3:13-16).
