Read this first: 1 Samuel 26:11-12
David tells Abishai not to pin Saul with his own spear, but to remove it, along with the jug the king uses at night. Twice that spear nearly killed David (18:10-11); now, he hopes, it will help him live. Then we are told how this deed was possible: God kept the army asleep. Whatever you face, no matter how hard, keep an eye out for the goodness of the Lord - it will be there.
