Read this first: 1 Samuel 25:43-44
Political and social motives affected David's marriage to Michal (18:17-29). They also seem present here when he marries the influential widow Abigail, despite his already being married to women from two other tribes. And Saul hands David's first wife to another man! Marriages should be built on loving unity (Gen 2:23-25), not selfish manipulation and exploitation.
