Read this first: 1 Samuel 20:8-9
David has taken up Jonathan's offer to test his claim about Saul's intent to murder (v4). Now he humbly recalls their covenant (18:3) and says that Jonathan should kill him himself if he's lying! But Jonathan is committed to supporting David: he will find the truth! Review promises that you have made to others. Are you keeping them? God takes seriously the vows we make.
