Great anguish and grief
Think of the King - 9
Read this first: 1 Samuel 1:15-16
Hannah's heart is heavy, like a rock inside. Unspoken prayer flows like a stream from that rock to the Lord. Eli judges her a worthless soul, much like his own sons (2:12). However, it's not self-indulgence which causes her behaviour but grief. Deep sadness can produce unusual conduct in a person. We should listen carefully and be slow to judge, lest we criticise unfairly.
