David was conscience-stricken

Read this first: 1 Samuel 24:5
Why David snipped Saul's robe is unclear: possibly to signal his men that it was safe to attack. But the cut actually slices him to the heart for giving way to the temptation to harm Saul. If we allow illicit desires to grow in our hearts then they will become sin, which brings death (Jam 1:14,15). Keep your conscience sensitive to sin so you flee from it; don't harden up.
