Read this first: 1 Samuel 2:29
Eli is compromised. Though he has issued small rebukes to his sons (v23-25), he's also grown fat on the meat stolen by them from the offerings and has failed to turn his warnings into prayers to ask the Lord to end the corruption. Some sins we do not want to see because it would be costly to deal with them. But the price of ignoring unrepented sin will be far higher.
